Over 6,000 Hectares in Kherson Region Have Already Destroyed, Farmers Need Help — Marchuk

The agricultural sector, which accounts for about 20% of Ukraine's GDP, has been operating under conditions of full-scale war for the fifth year. Despite the intensification of enemy attacks on farms, farmers are harvesting early grain crops. However, producers in frontline territories need support.

This was reported by Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Agri Council, Denys Marchuk, on the air of the DIM TV channel.

"The enemy is deliberately trying to destroy the agricultural sector. But farmers, especially in frontline territories, risk not only their machinery every day, but also their own lives, because the enemy is openly hunting people with FPV drones. Nevertheless, more than 2 million tonnes of early grain crops have already been harvested. The forecast for this season is 80–83 million tonnes of grain and oilseed crops, and this is more than enough for the country's food security," he noted.

The situation remains very difficult in the frontline regions, in particular in the Kherson region, as well as in the Kharkiv, Sumy, and Mykolaiv regions, where Russian troops continue to destroy agricultural land.

"More than 6,000 hectares of crops in the Beryslav district of the Kherson region have been destroyed, and the harvest is being transported out under constant shelling. Therefore, today the key task is to ensure financial support for farmers who have lost their harvest but must meet their credit obligations and prepare for the autumn sowing campaign. The UAC has already appealed to the government with a proposal to initiate the attraction of European Commission funds to help producers in frontline territories," the Deputy Chairman of the UAC emphasized.

Denys Marchuk also reported on another initiative aimed at supporting agricultural producers, which should ensure priority state support for farmers operating in the most affected regions.

"Draft law No. 15363 has already been registered in the Verkhovna Rada, signed by more than 36 people's deputies from various factions. It provides that the primary right to state support programs should be given to farmers from frontline territories and to those who have left temporarily occupied regions and continue to work in territory controlled by Ukraine. This is fair. And most importantly — it does not require additional funds from the state budget, but only a change in the order of priority for receiving already envisaged assistance," he said.

The UAC notes that the agricultural sector accounts for about 58% of Ukrainian exports, so supporting producers in frontline regions matters not only for the industry, but also for the country's economy.
